Thank you to photographer Terence Reeves for an engaging and creative workshop (see photos of the work above) on August 8 at the Tollkeeper's Cottage. Participants explored the possibilities of Cyanotype, a 180-year-old photographic printing process that later became the medium for architectural blueprints.

TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
Saturday September 26 from 2-4 pm
Join us for a gathering where we honour survivors of the residential school system, and remember the multi-generational trauma as well as the many beneficial teachings about land and resource use that we gain from Indigenous people. We'll have a chance to talk about our thoughts and enjoy refreshments.
SPADINA MUSEUM FALL FESTIVAL

Spadina House Museum is inviting families to view their lovely gardens and celebrate fall on the grounds. A highlight will be tasting apples and cider from their apple orchard and connecting with community artists and organizations like the Tollkeeper's Cottage. Come and have a chat with us as you relax and picnic on the grounds.
OUR HISTORIC WALKS ARE GOING STRONG -
GARRISON RAVINE AND EAST ANNEX
The weather is now much better to take in the many interesting buildings, geographical features and stories in our local streets:
The Garrison Ravine Walk will take place on Thursday Sept. 3 at 10 am. Marilyn will lead you where the Garrison Creek used to flow, through Christie Pits and Bickford Park. If you have done the Christie Pits walk, this one is not the same! Maybe a little overlap, but not much. You can learn how all Toronto's ravines were formed, how the ravine has affected the people near it, and how the people have affected the ravine. And there are wonderful murals by Red Urban Nation!
The East Annex Walk on Friday Sept. 11. Deborah will lead a walk through the East Annex, which is the area from Spadina to Avenue Rd., from Bloor to Dupont. Join Deborah to learn about this rich (in many senses!) area. This tour travels the original boundaries of the Annex. Along the way learn about some of the personalities who lived here and others whose influence is still evident. Among other stops, we view the house that started the Annex look and and the home of a woman who spearheaded the founding of a children’s hospital. Since Sept. 11 is a couple of weeks away, we may find we have to cancel if the weather turns against us!

NEW MURAL ON BATHURST STREET
The west wall of Bathurst Street as it defines the hill from Davenport up to the crest of the hill was in need of an innovative design. A few months ago the busy group StreetARToronto (StART) chose to meet at the Tollkeeper's Cottage to plan their competition for artists to submit ideas to decorate the wall. The mural is now finished and StART will host a celebratory session to mark its completion. This program was started as a way to reduce graffiti but we can all agree that it also makes our streets more beautiful, encourages walking and cycling, and mentors emerging talent. Take a look as you pass by. Well done!
POETRY CIRCLE
We're thinking of creating a poetry circle of those who have written poetry, or who love it, and would like an informal place to read and discuss it. We will meet at the Tollkeeper's Cottage at a date and time suitable to all (probably sometime in November). It will consist of one event at first and depending on the interest, could extend to others. There needs to be a minimum number interested. Please contact Jeannette at tollkeeperscottage@gmail.com.
